Psychosynthesis

Psychosynthesis Psychology was developed by Roberto Assagioli, an Italian psychiatrist. He spoke many languages fluently, and studied in depth both Eastern and Western religions. Although his roots were in Psychoanalysis, his dissatisfaction with it, led him to look deeper into the essential nature of man. Drawing upon visionary thinkers, philosophers and psychologists he was in close contact with, he created Psychosynthesis.

Psychosynthesis is a developmental approach where the focus
is on integrating  the various aspects of an individual's personality, so that the person can live and function in ways that are more meaningful and authentic.

It differs from other therapies in that it recognises that this process  is guided by a  a deeper self, who ' will make itself ' known,  often through difficulties This connection to our deeper self can become disrupted, by the stresses and strains of everyday life, previous unresolved experiences, or even in a less obvious but persistent way,  perhaps a sense that all is not well.

Defences, compensations and addictions can develop, preventing the individual from living a creative and meaningful life, with purpose and direction. It is within this context that Psychosynthesis endeavours to address the  more destructive and negative elements of the personality, whilst respecting and accepting that it is essentially the will of the Self that is seeking expression.
