Psychosynthesis is one of the first Western Psychologies that addresses spiritual development, psychological healing and growth, by recognising and supporting the particular life journey of the person – the individual's own unique path of Self – Realisation.
Psychosynthesis is a developmental approach where the focus is on integration of the various parts of an individual's personality, so that the person can live and function in ways that are more meaningful and authentic.
It differs from other therapies in that it recognises that the process of integration is guided by a relationship to a deeper self. This connection to our deeper self can become disrupted as a consequence of wounding.
Defences, compensations and addictions can develop, preventing the individual from living a creative and meaningful life, with purpose and direction. It is within this context that Psychosynthesis endeavours to address the destructive and negative elements of the personality, whilst respecting and accepting that it is essentially the will of the Self that is seeking expression.
Psychosynthesis attempts to understand suffering from a multi – dimensional perspective. This form of therapy is for people who are dealing with many different types of crisis or transitions in their lives.
This may include:
- Difficulties with intimate relationships
- Lack of meaning in life
- Loss of identity and direction
- Childhood traumas and abuse
- Eating disorders and Addictions
- Self – esteem and lack of confidence
